Jason

Jason is Booked

There are very few people on our campus who have style that is comparable to Jason Chan’s.  The Hong Kong native moved to Canada to specifically attend UBCO after previously attending the Canadian International School of Hong Kong.  As a Fine Arts student, Jason is an incredibly multitalented individual and is also one of Booked’s in-house photographers.  He did a fantastic job on Booked's first Manifesto shoot at the end of January.  Photography is more of a pastime for Jason as his true passions are videography and acting; he was very recently made a partner at YouTube.  I would describe Jason’s style as a mix between a chic, streamlined urban vibe combined with Japanese Harajuku undertones (…but I don’t mean Harajuku as in Gwen Stefani circa 2004; rather, his wardrobe is an eclectic mix of colourful pieces with unique prints and oversized garments similar to what one would see on a real Tokyo street style blog).  He has an overwhelming amount of purple in his wardrobe that he often incorporates into his daily looks through colour blocking like we see in his second look above.

Admittedly, 95% of the clothing Jason owns was either purchased in Hong Kong or was given to him by one of his sponsors.  In Hong Kong, there are so many different fashion styles, cultures, and subcultures that it’s hard for even the most devoted fashion lover to keep up with trends.  Jason describes how in a fast moving fashion mecca like Hong Kong, trends may be gone by the time you read about them.  Jason stays true to his own intuition and personal style regardless of what may be currently “on trend”.

While Jason doesn’t dress like the average student at UBCO, he admits to being heavily influenced by his friends and classmates in his way of dressing.  To a certain degree, this has tamed his usually innovative looks.  Although Jason’s style makes a loud statement, he is able to pull off very strong looks because of his larger-than-life, extroverted personality.  His unique way of dressing and humble demeanor are truly second to none.
